Summer Fun
Home Up Art Civics Civil War Field Trips HS to College Music Summer Fun Science

What works in the summer????     Here are some of our ideas.

Relax

  • Start your days with no TV
  • Start slow, finish chores
  • Do school lite (a few less calories)
  • Read a little, take extra trips to the library
  • Take what's left to do to the pool for the afternoon

Follow a Unit Theme

Geography or State History?

  • Make the appropriate museums a weekly priority
  • Look for summer festivals that relate
  • Keep a photo journal
  • See what's happening in the National Parks

Music?

  • Look for free music in the parks - libraries have the schedules
  • Get a library book ahead of time to cover some particular aspect
  • Keep a journal of the events and what was noticed there relating to what was covered in the reading or other prep
  • See what's happening at the Gettysburg Nat. Park

Plant Studies?

  • Garden
  • Watch the bugs
  • Check what Scout badges you can work for at MeritBadge.com (Even if you aren't a Scout, these downloadable pages are great unit studies!)
  • Use the Nature Centers in Montgomery County, Md.
  • Keep those nature guides handy!!!

Remember Homeschool Day at the Fair in August.
